Dive into the world of KRYOS, an immersive AR game that takes you on a scientific expedition in the polar regions. Utilize drones, remote sensing, and InSAR to map the Arctic, uncover fossils, and discover rare wildlife. Each level offers unique challenges, blending fun with educational insights into polar exploration and conservation. KRYOS is not just a game – it's a journey into the heart of the Arctic, where every player becomes a part of the mission to understand and protect our planet's fragile polar ecosystems.

KRYOS blends education and entertainment, offering an engaging insight into polar exploration and cartographic technology. Its AR-based gameplay encourages physical interaction, setting it apart from conventional gaming experiences, as well as built the UI system.

As part of a collaborative team project, I was responsible for game planning, level design, and building and producing the game in Unity, including writing core player interaction and mapping tool code.

Gameplay Mechanics:
  • Technologies: The game features three controllable survey technologies inspired by real-world cryospheric mapping tools: drones, remote sensing, and InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar).
  • Storyline: Players join an Antarctic survey team, utilizing these mapping tools to explore an AR island, gather materials, and establish a base. Each level provides different detection tools, challenging players to complete specific collection missions.
  • Levels:
    • Level 1: Players control an AR drone through body movement and virtual remote sensing, covering the entire island to discover as many glaciers and fossils as possible. Close proximity to fossils allows for collection by swiping the screen. Completing fossil collection reveals hidden penguin eggs, which players collect to advance to the next level.
    • Level 2: Introduces remote sensing as a new tool. It orbits the island automatically, and players aim to maximize the overlap between its range and the drone's to gather maximum resources. Players can click to photograph and collect unique polar flora and fauna.
    • Level 3: Features InSAR. Players ensure overlapping ranges between two InSAR satellites, the drone, and remote sensing to acquire resources



Difficulty & Progression:
  • Difficulty escalates with each level, and the variety of survey tools available differs in each stage.

Game Objective:
  • Upon completing the final level, players gather enough resources to establish a polar nature reserve. This AR game offers a unique experience, where players physically move and place objects, diverging from traditional gameplay. It also educates about polar regions and mapping techniques.
