This project is a visual interpretation of the ending of the Japanese sci-fi, From the New World, which explores the trial of Yakomaru and the societal issues that led to a violent tragedy. To convey the complexity of the situation, I designed two levels of text. The bottom level is a Q&A for the prosecutor, representing the public's desire for punishment towards Yakomaru. The larger titles are the words extracted from the Q&A, arranged with a strong visual language to convey my attitude that this is a tragedy without a clear right or wrong.
To create a sense of tension and violence, I used irregular paper edges and textures as a background in PhotoShop and AfterEffects. Flames and sparks were added to heighten the atmosphere, and the title words were gradually burned away to leave only traces, symbolizing the fleeting nature of justice. Ultimately, the public voice representing the death of Yakomaru didn't lead to social change, leaving us with a sense of tragedy.
